Multi-Material Films Check

– Understand What’s Really in Your Flexible Packaging

Is Your Film Truly Recyclable?

Many flexible packaging solutions look recyclable — but contain hidden material combinations that make separation and recovery difficult. The trinamiX Multi-Material Films App helps you find out what’s really inside.

In just seconds, you’ll know if your film is mono-material, contains polyamide (PA), or must be considered multi-material.

What the App Detects

The application uses a specialized NIR detection model to classify flexible plastic films into three groups:

  1. Mono-material films
    PE, PP, PET, or PA
  2. PE films with polyamide content
The app detects PA and provides an approximate PA percentage
  3. Multi-material structures
All other combinations are flagged as non-mono-material (e.g., PE + EVOH, PET + PE)

This enables fast, reliable decision-making during design, R&D, or QA processes.

Example Outputs

  • “Mono-material PE”
  • “PE/PA film, PA content: 21%”
  • “Multilayer – not classified as mono-material”

All results are clearly shown in the app interface and saved to the secure cloud portal (optional).

How It Works

This application runs on the trinamiX PAL One mobile NIR spectrometer, a pocket-sized device that connects wirelessly to your smartphone or desktop.

  • Scan time: <2 seconds

Use Cases

  • Evaluate flexible packaging during development

  • Test input materials before converting or printing

  • Support claims of recyclability or mono-material design

  • Flag problem films before they enter your supply chain
