Multi-Material Films Check
– Understand What’s Really in Your Flexible Packaging
Is Your Film Truly Recyclable?
Flexible packaging often appears recyclable but may contain hidden material combinations that hinder separation and recovery, posing challenges for PPWR compliance and recyclability assessments. The trinamiX Multi-Material Films App helps you find out what’s really inside.
In just seconds, you’ll know if your film is mono-material, contains polyamide (PA), or must be considered multi-material.
What the App Detects
Utilizing a specialized NIR detection model, the application classifies flexible plastic films into three categories:
- Mono-material films
PE, PP, PET, or PA - PE films with polyamide content
The app detects PA and provides an approximate PA percentage - Multi-material structures
All other combinations are flagged as non-mono-material (e.g., PE + EVOH, PET + PE)
This enables fast, reliable decision-making during design, R&D, or QA processes.
Example Outputs
- “Mono-material PE”
- “PE/PA film, PA content: 21%”
- “Multilayer – not mono-material (e.g., PE/EVOH)”
All results are clearly shown in the app interface and saved to the secure cloud portal (optional).
How It Works
The application operates on the trinamiX PAL One mobile NIR spectrometer, a compact device that wirelessly connects to your smartphone or desktop, enabling on-site analysis of flexible packaging materials.
